Chris: Hi, my name is Chris Burres. I’m the owner of E-Webstyle.

Paul: Paul Hanson, Sales Manager at E-Webstyle.

Chris: And this is a great day. We’ve actually got a little special surprise for you. We’re going to do a little—

Paul: A little surprise. [laughs]

Chris: You ready and warmed up? All right.

Paul: Let’s do it.

Chris: We’re going–this is our last podcast actually before Christmas and New Year’s. I’m going to be on vacation so we decided we would sing you a little Christmas carol.

Bounces and how to prevent them, View Source Code Trick

Third E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast Dec. 15th 2008.  Second page of Transcription

Chris: Yes. So you look at that and the content speaks to the search engine optimization process, the look and feel and content that the customer, their potential customer is going to be exposed to is just not up to par, you know. You would end up wasting a whole lot money getting your website to the first page of Google and having a website that gets only bounces. Do you know what I mean by bounces, Paul?

Paul: Bounces–I’m bouncing on this [inaudible] wall. I would probably say bounce means I get to your website and I bounce right back to where I was before.

Chris: Yes, yes. It’s like walking into a club and there’s nothing worth staying for so you bounce.

Paul: I’m bouncing.

Chris: So you’re going back. You go into a website like I described a one page or two paragraphs or whatever it is and there’s nothing there for you. There’s no eye candy, there’s nothing that catches your attention. There’s no reason for you to be there so you leave. So that potential customer which we would never handle that way but that potential customer could end up spending money to get on the first page of Google or any one of the search engines and then turn around and it’s just a total waste of money. So we often start and we want to make sure that our customers have a really nice user-friendly, attractive–we like to say most of our websites–in fact 99 percent of them have a little bit of motion in them. We like a website to–I like to call it breathe. We don’t want it annoying. We don’t want any epileptic fits caused by the flashing that’s there on the screen.

Google local ROI, Google Analytics

Third E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast Dec. 15th 2008.  Third page of Transcription

Chris: The next thing we have on our list is search engine local maps and it applies to Yahoo and Google. This is a–it’s something we would probably–we’ll probably handle in an entirely separate podcast because it is–excuse me, a very important story and a very important tool. And it is part of our base package. We set our clients up with Google local maps, we give them some good advice about how they can get on the first page of Google local maps when it’s possible, when it’s not possible, what they need to do. You know, all of that great stuff. So we really help our clients getting there. One of our clients and it’s actually–it’s a theater here in Houston that I performed with, Third Coast Comedy. I do improv with them and their biggest traffic comes from people typing Houston comedy. And it comes not because they’re on the first page organic but they’re on the first page of the Google local maps. And so, you know, that’s an example of getting significant traffic just being in the right space on Google local maps and we do do that with our clients.

Pay Per Click Effective/Efficient Campaign

Second E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast Dec. 5th 2008.  First page of Transcription

Chris: Hi. I’m Chris Burres, owner of E-webstyle.

Paul: And I’m Paul Hanson, Sales Manager at E-Webstyle.

Chris: All right. Welcome to our shoeless E-Webstyle podcast.

Paul: No shoes on today. Welcome everybody. Thanks for joining the podcast. No shoes on, everybody is going to take their shoes off today. Why are we taking our shoes off?

Chris: You’re probably wondering why we’re taking our shoes off. Because I’m wondering… well, since the journalist hurled the shoe at George Bush today, we thought it would be safer not to have any shoes anywhere in the podcast area in case we were to say something to offend somebody and they want to throw a shoe.

Paul: And hopefully I can duct as quick as President Bush.

Chris: He was pretty, pretty stealthy there wasn’t he?

Keyword Value for SEO, High Value Keywords

Second E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast Dec. 5th 2008.  Second page of Transcription

Chris: We were doing a pretty good job of emphasizing the importance of keywords. There is literally nothing more important for either Search Engine Optimization or pay-per-click than determining the right keywords.

Paul: Well, give me an example of a keyword for–in this case, someone just tuned in then, OK what is the keyword, I’ve been under a rock. What’s the keyword?

Chris: Well, we’ll stick with the same example with the Wii, right? So you–you know ideally, somebody who just created a website and is now selling Wii products. Again, whether it’s games, accessories, the console, the first thing that pops to mind, I need to be on the front page of Google when somebody types in the word Wii. And indeed, Wii is a keyword. Another keyword, even though it is multiple words would be Wii console. Wii console combo would be another. Wii console–there’s a fitness game. I don’t know what it is titled. Well say, Wii [inaudible].

Paul: Wii fit.

Chris: Wii Fit, There we go. There we go.

Paul: [laughs]

Chris: So Wii fit. Now, Wii fit is obvious because you know the Wii and you’re familiar with that game but somebody like me who doesn’t actually know the name of the game. [laughter]

Keywords Come From Buisness understanding

Second E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast Dec. 5th 2008.  Third page of Transcription

Chris: Now, I think you’re–I think you’re exactly right and I’ve, you know, we will probably do a podcast on what to look for, what to stay away from, where is the beacon of hope if you’re looking for search engine optimization. And that’s a great example where there are a lot of organizations that are really–you give them the list of keywords and they are really, you know, they do a bang up job of getting new good search engine placement. They are really good search engine optimizers. And if they’re optimizing for the wrong terms because they don’t understand your business, they don’t take the time to understand your business then, of course their services have value but their service could be significantly more valuable if that time and expertise were taken to find those right keywords. And, you know, that’s something that, you know, clearly you get here at E-Webstyle and just make sure that you get an incredible comfort about how willing is your SEO provider to spend a lot of time. How willing are they to spend a lot of time and understand your business so that the work they do is the most impactful and can increase your business the most.

Paul: I like how you said understand your business. If you’re going to trust your company, your website with some foreign person that–excuse me, not foreign. I just–not foreign as in where they live (crosstalk)

Chris: Outside the company? [laughter]

Paul: If someone is going to come in to your company, if you’re going to trust your company and your website with them, they need to understand your business so if they’re not asking questions about, you know, tell about your business or how long have you been around or how do you operate, that’s a big sign they should be asking things like this because and it’s our belief. We need to understand your company to be able to help you to bring that qualified traffic. We need to know how people–you know how people come to you now, how do they search for you, what they do when they get here. So, that’s a big–that’s a big flashing light I guess for a lack of a better term. They need to understand your business and that’s something we always try–we do with every single client. We need to understand their business, how they operate and things, you know, just you know maybe even things that go on day to day. It helps us to do our job, it helps us get you that valuable qualified traffic.

Onpage and Offpage SEO

Second E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast Dec. 5 th 2008.  Fourth page of Transcription

Chris: Yes. So, the next thing we want to talk about–I want to just move down our list. We’ve got another five minutes here. So, we’re going to cover a little bit more of what is involved in SEO. So what do we do and I got to say it number one is keywords. (laughter)

Paul: That’s a keyword. (laughter)

Chris: There is the shoe.

Paul: It’s like this (crosstalk)

Chris: Remember the Eddie Murphy–mom always can throw the shoe around the corner in the other room and then put it back on. That was hilarious.

Paul: So, another than keywords what else? What else do you do in–if you’re doing some type of Search engine optimization, you’re going to use your keywords, what else?

Chris: Well, I think we mentioned and we forgot to reiterate–did we mention in page and out page stuff?

Paul: Oh, that’s right.

Chris: I think…

Paul: What we did it on the last podcast was talk about—

Chris: So—

Paul: Two different types of…

Chris: So, we’ve got, you know in any terms of–in any form of Search engine optimization you have the work that you do on your page obviously called, on page optimization and off page optimization. That would be things that you do outside of your website that generate value and traffic and better rankings on the search engine.

Open ftp Site in Windows Explorer

So we are all aware of the problem where the latest version of IE does not support access to FTP sites directly.  If you open an ftp:// link in IE you must then select page and “Open FTP site in Windows Explorer”  I have not found a way around this until now and I wanted to share it pronto.  Please link to this if you like it.

First you need to make a batch file.  Create a new text document and name it xyz.bat.  In our case we where trying to ftp to testftp.com so we called the batch file testftp.bat.  In the batch file put the following code:  explorer.exe ftp://testftp.com/uploads.  This code just runs windows explorer and references your selected ftp site.

Now the fun part find iexpress.exe on your computer, mine was located here C:\WINDOWS\system32\iexpress.exe .  This Iexpress.exe file is resident on at least the XP OS.  I cannot attest to any other OS’s.  Iexpress is a tool by microsoft that will turn a .bat file into an executable.

-> First screen press next
->Extract files and run an installation command
->Title “testftp.com”
-> No Promt
-> Do not display a license
-> Add testftp.bat to the packaged files
-> Install program is also testftp.bat
-> Default
-> No messages
-> testftp.exe, Hide Progress
-> No restart
-> Save the SED file

This is just a file which will record all your information for making the .exe file.  If you save this and you make a change to the .bat file you can just run the SED file to create a new .exe with the new .bat

Now just add the .exe to your website as a link.  Make sure your clients know they can trust that file and run it when prompted.  Thats it.

Let me know what you think.
