Paul: Hi. Welcome back. Thanks for joining us for another fun-filled edition of our unknown secrets of SEO podcast.

Chris: We are the most popular SEO podcast on iTunes and I have research to prove it.

Paul: That’s right. We are the best. We’re supermen.

Chris: Yes. So, we’re glad you’re tuned in. If you guys are just listening to our podcast, remember, normally you can catch our podcast live video on Fridays at 9:15 a.m. Central Standard Time.

Paul: Except that it’s snowing today so the City of Houston just freaked out. (laughing)

Chris: You would actually notice we’re in front of the window today. And the reason we’re in front of the window is ’cause we wanted to actually show you that, yes, it does snow.

Paul: A little bit. And we kind of dusted off the car so you might not be able to see it. But, yeah, it snowed in Houston.

Chris: It feels like Times Square out here. Look at this. Look at all the traffic here. It’s crazy.

Paul: you know, you need — you’re in sales there. And if you’re in sales, you need to always track your leads and someone that comes to you and says, “Hey, give me a free website analysis” is a potential lead or “Hey, download my e-book.” That’ could be a potential lead that you could market to, send some information to, call “Hey, do you need our products and services?” I think that’s an awesome idea. So, you could track your …

Chris: The goal.

Paul: … goal.

Chris: Yeah. So …

Paul: A lead as a goal.

Chris: And if that’s your goal, you know, again, those are good things to track ’cause maybe in a particular week time period which Google analytics makes it really easy to look at goals on a week-by-week basis, maybe you’re getting 5, 10 goals a week and then all of a sudden they drop off. Again, maybe your web designer messed up the page or, you know, whatever it may be, you know. Keeping track of these goals really are the, you know, they’re the key functionality of your website and you want to keep track of them so that if something were to accidentally or, you know, happenstance made a break then you’re tracking them so it’s easy for you to fix it pretty quickly.

Chris: … then you should get started or after you listen to the podcast ’cause you don’t want to get distracted. So what are some of the things that we could track on goals?

Paul: You can track — well, I’ll tell you. You can track — well, now or later? I mean by free — I’ll say, we’ll talk about now. What can you track now on Google goals? You can — let me see, there are some goal types. There are time-based goals now. So now you can track how long someone stays on your site or how little someone stays on your site. So if — obviously, you want more traffic to your website. You want people to stay longer. You want them to go through more pages and you can track that as well.

Chris: You know, Paul, I got to be honest.

Paul: What’s that?

Chris: I’m looking at this and I’m like, “wow, that’s really cool.” I’m not going to say — I’m not going to lie. That’s really cool.

Paul: And that’s cause, you know, I was thinking like this. Probably, somebody out there that’s like, “Man, they keep giving me this information” like ’cause a lot of our listeners are business owners themselves and they are trying to do their SEO or help and they probably like “Man, you’re just interdicting me with information.” Okay, you are going to have to spend some time on this stuff. I mean, of course, there’s guys, there’s nerds like us I just live and breathe this stuff and we just spend all day on it, just can’t wait to get more, more, more. But there are some people that are like “this is just too much.” I got to run my business. I got to set these goals. I got to do this, watch out for duplication. I mean, this is going to take some time. You’re going to have to invest some time into learning this kind of stuff and less time into your business. That’s what I told you.
