Internationally Recognized SEO Podcast – Obrigado Brazil

Chris: Hi and welcome to the unknown secrets of SEO podcast!

Paul: What’s up everyone? Welcome back to another fun-filled edition of the unknown secrets of SEO podcast.

Chris: My name is Chris Burres, owner of the e-Webstyle.

Paul: And this is Paul Hanson, sales manager of e-Webstyle.

Chris: I’m going to put the mic over closer to hear this.

Paul: (laughing)

Chris: I’m going to turn that off. All right. Having a few technical difficulties this morning.

Paul: Good Friday. Happy Good Friday to everyone out there.

Chris: So, what we like to do in our podcast as you frequent listeners know is we like to cover what we covered last time. And last time, we covered a whole bunch of things. It was a whole gamut of stuff.

Paul: So many that I couldn’t tell you what it was (laughing).

Chris: I glanced at our – we keep a tech sheet for the last podcast, which was podcast 53 and nothing’s sticking out. I remember we were all over the place and it was actually a really high energy podcast. Continue reading “Internationally Recognized SEO Podcast – Obrigado Brazil” »

Google Local Sponsored Listing and SEO

Chris: Bless you. “I want to start off” – he didn’t say bless you. That was me just to be clear. “I want to start off by saying that your podcast is not only extremely informative pertaining to search engine marketing, but also very comical and attention grabbing. I look forward to listening to every podcast for the knowledge and insight that you two give each week for free I might add.” So wow! Andrew thank you very much that is a great testimonial and he goes on to ask for a job (laughing)

Paul: (laughing)

Chris: I’m just kidding (laughing). He says, he talked ‑ he just got his BBA , Bachelor in Business Administration and he didn’t study SEO-SEM in depth, but he was very interested in it. And his question to us is, if we have any advice on how to break into the SEO market. What he’s finding is that employees that he’s applied to seemed to care more about actual experience than a high GPA and genuine passion for the growing industry. You know, we talked about this kind of briefly and Paul what’s our thought on that?

Paul: Who cares what you went to school for?

Chris: (laughing). Wow, you’re like Simon Cowell today.

Paul: (laughing)

Chris: Your degree isn’t anything… Continue reading “Google Local Sponsored Listing and SEO” »

Google Places Sponsored AD and SEO

Chris: What I’m actually thinking is, is they were looking for us specifically. So they went to Google Maps and they typed e-webstyle or they typed e-web or the most popular SEO podcast in Houston. So, they knew about us already…

Paul: Uh-hum.

Chris: …and they were trying to find us and when they found us, of course, they clicked us. So, that’s not rocket science and what’s the value? I don’t need to highlight my ad for somebody who’s looking for me in particular. So, I’m going to do that needless to say thing. Needless to say…

Paul: (laughing)

Chris: And I’ll say it, we’re not going to be participating in the Google local sponsored ad. It’s only $25 and you know I think we could figure some other better – maybe dancing naked chicks, we could throw $25.

Paul: Spend $25. I probably wouldn’t spend twenty-five bucks on that.

Chris: (laughing) Probably not. Continue reading “Google Places Sponsored Ad and SEO” »

Chris: Hi and welcome to the unknown secrets of SEO podcast!

Paul: Hi. Welcome back everyone to another fun-filled edition of our SEO podcast.

Chris: This is pretty cool. We’re right here in front of the e-Webstyle logo. We’ve got this nice, this fancy red – I’m sorry you got the gray chair.

Paul: (laughing )

Chris: I got the fancy red chair.

Paul: It’s a spiffy Swedish fine furniture.

Chris: (laughing) You are right. Also known as cheap IKEA furniture (laughing). Thank you guys so much. Remember you guys are listening to the most popular SEO podcast on iTunes. Let’s just get a lot of stuff out of the way. We’ve got to be very mindful of our Gino time limit. We got a lot to cover today. I’m pretty excited with some really good information. First off, our last podcast, you want to go back and listen to that. Actually our last two podcasts were interviews with Ken Roberts. I hope you had a chance to go back and listen to those, but they’re pretty good. Some good information on those…

Paul: I listened to it. I’ve been to the first part ‑ first half of the first one.

Chris: Yeah. Okay. Well we missed you.

Paul: (laughing)

Chris: We’ll leave it at that. By the way some great information, Ken was really forthcoming with a lot of really good insights and interesting ‑ you know everything was [Indiscernible] [0:01:21] Google is really opinion right? Unless you work at Google, unless we had a Google badge on, although, Google did call me this week. They’re…

Paul: That’s right.

Chris: Yeah.

Paul: That’s right.

Chris: We’ll be covering that in a little bit. It’s kind of cool when Google calls.

Paul: Yeah. I thought it was garbage. He called earlier today and I was like yeah right. Continue reading “Horrible comments on blogs and forums.” »

Chris: It could even be multiple opinions inside one article. Wikipedia has pretty interesting stuff. It’s an interesting concept and it really has – remember when we used to have – when we were like, “Oh damn, I got to do a report on Spain.”

Paul: Oh yeah.

Chris: Then we either go the library where we actually happen to have…

Paul: Encyclopedia.

Chris: …walk over and get this big book and look up Spain and then read like the eighteen pages they had on Spain and now you just type Spain.

Paul: Yeah. Now you just copy it.

Chris: Copy it and you paste it (laughing).

Paul: You just plagiarize it from Wikipedia (laughing)

Chris: Kids have it so easy these days.

Paul: Yes they do now. Yes they do.

Chris: I’m expecting twins, I’m going to buy encyclopedias and make them use encyclopedias.

Paul: Make them…

Chris: Damn it.

Paul: God. Or at least kids know what an encyclopedia these days.

Chris: Or an iPod…

Paul: It’s like with the Wikipedia at…(laughing)

Chris: Oh man. We’re on some sort of roll today. Yeah let’s see. Oh Google called me like I said earlier…

Paul: Talk about that. That’s going to be interesting. So people out there you are going to start getting calls from Google. Continue reading “Google Sponsored Local Listing Review” »

Chris: Or you know what? You know what’s probably going to happen? ‘Cause this is technology, we’re going to have a bunch of dudes go out and create female Facebook accounts (laughing) and become our fans.

Paul: That’s cool as long you have pictures that looks good.

Chris: I’m cool with that.

Paul: I’m okay with that.

Chris: Okay and we really appreciate all your support out there.

Paul: And to me that’s another reason, if you have a business you need a Facebook fan page or a group or I don’t know what they call it.

Chris: I think it actually is a Facebook business page.

Paul: A business page. Hey that’s another reason you need it, so you could spend 20 hours a day doing Facebook Analytics in addition to your Google Analytics. But I thought that was really cool. Facebook Analytics is not something I’m familiar with. Continue reading “Should I purchase multiple domains for SEO” »

Chris: Hi and welcome to the Unknown Secrets of SEO podcast! My name is Chris Burres, owner of e-Webstyle and you are listening to podcast number 52. We’re actually doing this on the same day. He might look familiar and know we didn’t wear the same clothes from a week ago. We actually jumped in and we’re doing another podcast immediately ’cause the interview was going so great and we had actually in between. We’ve got — looks like we got a lot of good information. We’re not going to have any problem with our Gino time limit this time.

Ken: Yeah. (laughing)

Chris: ‘Cause I don’t really have any new news for you. Our news last time was Facebook unseeds Google and Yahoo drops Shopping API. Do go back and listen to the last podcast ’cause this is part two of a two-part series of an interview with Ken Roberts and he is with searchmarketingprofits.com. Just to get a little housekeeping out of the way, turn off your cell phone — oh, wait. You guys don’t have to do that, that’s only when you’re speaking in a crowd. You can stalk us, stalk us at twitter.com/ewebstyle and that ewebstyle doesn’t have the dash. You can also stalk us on Facebook. The best way to find that is to go to e-webstyle.com/facebook.

How important is website continuity?

Chris: So they’re apprehensive about that and so, yeah, I never thought of that of having a phone call as an option to sign up even for a white paper or whatever. Now the 62%, you’re saying — what was that 62% of people follow up some online…

Ken: 62% of people that do a search…

Chris: Right.

Ken: …okay, results…

Chris: Culminates in a phone call.

Ken: In a phone call.

Chris: Wow!

Ken: Just think about it. I have to do this a lot of times. I have to take a step back and say, “Okay, what do I do?” I mean just as a human nature. When I’m not thinking SEO marketing and I’m — I got to find this. I need to go find this. We’re talking about this.

Chris: Yeah, lawnmower part or whatever.

Ken: I’m just like everybody else. I’d go out there and I’d do a search.

Chris: Right.

Ken: What do I do?

Chris: You eventually make a phone call. 62 — wow!

Ken: 62 people out of a hundred prefer to follow it up with a phone call.

Chris: Instead of just firing off an e-mail or whatever. That makes a lot of sense so wow! We used to — and even I started some kind of small businesses that I’ve shut down — actually one. It was online PC parts and in my head I was thinking, you know, I want to set this up so that I don’t have to answer phones. And I kind of knew in the back of my mind that’s not a viable option, you know. You think about companies that…

Fifty-two E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast Mar. 19th 2010.  Third page of Transcription

Chris: And that kind of goes to one of the things that I say is like our job as search engine optimizers is to provide a good experience to a Google user and if a Google user is looking for car wash and they end up for whatever reason on a page with the owner of the car wash is, you know, pets on it, you know, that may be interesting to the owner and all of his family members and he may have a huge family and I don’t care and that’s — in that case, you know, if it’s been optimized that way, the optimizer has not provided a good experience to the Google user and therefore, you know, eventually Google’s algorithms if they haven’t — and use the existing that they have, they’re going to catch those up and say, “Look, this is not valuable to our users. We don’t like what you’re doing” and they’re going to penalize you. So if you’ve got a business that does — oh, I don’t know, let’s say search engine optimization and IT. You would recommend that they actually have two separate domain names for each of those or is it okay to…

Ken: Well, it’s still — there’s still some relationship there…

Chris: Okay.

Ken: …within the…

Chris: ‘Cause it’s technology.

Ken: Yeah, within the LSI concept, it’s still — it should be segregated, okay. You’re not going to…

Chris: I’m the same page, right.

Ken: You’re not going to start mixing in. You know, obviously within a conversation of the page, if it…

Chris: You may link it that way.

Ken: …wants talking about in a conversation but you’re not going to — in a conversation of webpage talking about a car wash, they’re…

Chris: They’re talking about pets, yeah.

Ken: Where does a dog and a pet– you know, unless we wash pets too.

Chris: Pets also, yeah.

Ken: Okay.

Chris: That’s the little run right next to the car wash, right?
