Chris: [Laughs] We also have a review and you know how much we love reviews. This is what we love. You can also find our podcast at ewebstyle.podomatic.com. So, there’s no www in there. You could find our podcast. That’s where we actually host our podcast. Go there, create an account, become a friend, put a review, give us a shoot-out or whatever ‘cause we love that. We also love it when you do it on iTunes. Here’s a guy, his handle is DTRF Webmaster and what he had to do is he went to iTunes, he created an account and then he submitted a review. We’ve got 20 ratings on our podcast now…
Paul: That’s what’s up.
Chris: …on iTunes. Fifteen of them or five star, five of them are four star, which gives us an average – thank god they round up – of five stars!
Paul: Five stars… [Laughs]
Paul: [Laughs] And that was a 4.599 so…
Chris: Come on, just give me the star.
Paul: That’s what’s up. Very cool.
Chris: And here’s what – the title of DTRF Websmaster’s review was entertaining and educational, which by the way there’s a world for that. It was coined in the previous review by BSN Jedi. It’s called edutainment so…
Paul: Edutainment. Yeah.
Chris: So “entertaining and educational. I’ve been listening to some podcasts in the car.” I’m assuming he means some of our podcasts.
Paul: Okay.
Chris: … “in the car on the way to work. I’m a web developer who’s just starting to get into SEO and SIVO.” He’s actually quoting…
Paul: Oh, search engine visitor optimization. Continue reading “Free photo shoot for Google Places” »

Paul: Okay, so what else? There are a couple of other points that I did some research, attended some seminars on things that are of importance that I feel we should talk about for your Google Places. First of all, the first thing on my list, Google Local Business Center is now known as Google Places. That happened a couple of weeks ago.
Okay, now here’s one thing that I learned…
Chris: Just to make sure, that doesn’t really change anything right?
Paul: No.
Chris: Yeah, okay.
Paul: [Laughs]
Chris: Just a name.
Paul: Just a name.
Chris: So if you’re doing well with it before, don’t freak out with the name change, you’re still going to be doing well with it. Continue reading “Google Bots and Keyword Stuffing” »

Chris: Maybe it’s over here, yeah. SES Research is the parent company of E-Webstyle. It’s a company that one of my business partners and I started in ’91. So, that’s why the logo is actually here in our office and kind of nostalgia stuff. We are actually carbon nanomaterial manufacturers. You could check out the website at sesres.com. Chris: A lot of stuff to emulate there. I got a little bit more news. Google prevails in a trademark case with Rosetta Stone. So this is the situation where Google is still very comfortable selling — or you know, let’s say you start — you and I started a — I don’t know, a Spanish-speaking teaching course of some sort and we say, “You know what? Anytime somebody types in Rosetta Stone, we want our Pay-per-click ad to show up.”
Paul: Okay.
Chris: So, Google is actually selling the trademark term of Rosetta Stone.
Paul: Wow!
Chris: Right? And they have been. They’re continuing to. There was another case by rescuecom.com but actually ended up dropping their suit. Rosetta Stone took it all the way to some court and the court didn’t — without even hearing it dismissed it. So you can still go out and purchase Rosetta Stone or Ford or, you know, whatever these major brands are…
Paul: Wow!
Chris: …and have your Pay-per-click ad show up. I don’t know how I feel about that.
Paul: So basically, if you ever sue Google, you’ll lose basically ‘cause their pockets are deep and that’s basically it. Just don’t. I mean if you ever get into a conflict with Google, quit. That’s pretty much it. Continue reading “Using Trademarks in Google SEO and PPC” »

Fifty-eight E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast April 30th 2010. Third page of Transcription
Paul: Okay. Quantcast SEO, quantcast.com basically gives statistics about your website. It is very — I have had a little experience with it but I don’t do it very much. But I’ve actually recently — and the part of it — about the past since he e-mailed me this I started doing some more research. Quantcast basically gives much more detailed information than Google Analytics. If you want a find out — you attach some code to your website, you want to find out, okay, not just your location but if you want to find out the sex, the race, the age, the salary of the people that are coming to your website, if they have any children, their traffic, how often they’re coming back to your website, what other things that people of this demographic are doing, you can find that. Quantcast really is for marketers so…
Chris: Man, that’s kind of scary.
Paul: Yeah.
Chris: Like Big Brother.
Paul: Big? It really is.
Chris: So as I’m surfing they know if I’m married, and have kids?
Paul: And I was looking at that like kids? How the hell do you know that? I mean seriously. Does my IP address tell you I got kids?
Chris: Make sure your webcam is off.
Paul: Yeah.
Chris: Wait. Weren’t there some — like some school. There were some news about — they handed out laptops to kids. Continue reading “Using Quantcast for SEO” »

Paul: [Laughs].
Chris: I don’t know. Okay, thank you for joining us for the podcast. Without the cheat sheet we’re nothing. All right. So, the first we’d like to do is cover a little bit about what we covered last time and I didn’t bring my cheat sheet so, I’ve got an idea.

Fifty-seven E-Webstyle.com SEO Podcast April 23th 2010.Second page of Transcription
Chris: If you just go in and type “lawyer,” at least in the Houston area, it’ll actually be the equivalent of typing lawyer of Houston and give you local results.
Paul: And it’s expanded. I just probably saw it on five different categories I searched yesterday, the little yellow highlight on Google Local. I was like, “Wow, they’re really selling this stuff.”
Chris: Yeah. So, here’s an example. Say you’re in the Bay Area – I haven’t been to the Bay area, it’s one of those trips I’m looking forward to, and you type in “Bart” right? If you type in “Bart” at least in this office, you’re looking at Bart Simpson. If you type in “Bart” in the Bay Area, apparently you would be looking for the Bay Area Rapid Transit System.
Paul: The train system?
Chris: So if you’re in the Bay Area, that’s what comes up in the results.
Paul: It’s cool.
Chris: If you’re from somewhere else, nothing else. If you’re in the Miami area and you type in “dolphin,” the football team comes up, you know, as one of the results in the search. If you’re anywhere else, up comes you know… Continue reading “Page Load Times and SEO” »

Chris: …their spiders so that as they’re going through they are also testing how long is this webpage going to take to download in addition ‘cause it doesn’t need to download the picture ‘cause it can’t do anything.
Paul: It can’t read.
Chris: It needs the O tag. It likes the O tag off of the picture and it’s not going to download the picture so that’s interesting.
Paul: I say this is probably like a user experience metric that they are tracking ‘cause you know everybody knows you go to a webpage that takes a long time to load, you’re going to leave. And actually on the article, on the Webmaster Central blog, it says, “Pages that take a long time to load or sites that take a long time to load, people don’t stay there as long.” So, this is another reason why you want to really work on that. And here are some free tools given from the Google Webmaster Central blog where you can test how quickly your pages load. Well one, there’s the Google Webmaster tools that has its own little page speed or…
