Various Quirks of SEO that you May Have Not Been Aware of

Chris Burres:               Excellent. This is from a long time listener and she interacts with us a lot. “I just listened to podcast 173. Thank you for answering my question about relative author tag. I now understand that “rel=em” is for when I have my own author/contributor page on a website where I posted a guest post. The “rel=author” attribute is for when my biographical information appears on the same web page as the post itself. Also thank you for reposting my article on Facebook. It was a real nice article. That was about videos, right? About SEO videos?

Charles Lewis:             Yes.

Chris Burres:               Then she added a couple of points. “Why on the link below” she’s talking about the link that we tend to post on Facebook when we add a new podcast to iTunes “are the partners shown as Chris and a light skinned, skinny brother named Paul rather than Chris and Chuck?”

When to Use HTTP and HTTPS

Charles Lewis:             You know; it is what it is.

Chris Burres:               We actually have both domains as you know. If you just go to ewebstyle.com you can get there. We like to very clearly distinguish the e and the webstyle because we like the name webstyle and e is actually old school [Laughter]. Ewebstyle. E-webstyle.

Charles Lewis:             From a practical perspective they look cheap and compromising. That may raise a caution flag when you reach out for links and citations. That’s why I disagree with. When you reach out for links and citations if your content is quality if your brand is there and you have something that people want to link to that they enjoy reading I think they pay attention to the hyphen in your domain name.

Chris Burres:               Apparently our audio is not that good today.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah?

Chris Burres:               Yes. We’re getting–

Panda 3.9 SEO Effects

Chris Burres:               That would be just weird. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             I’m calling you under water.

Chris Burres:               What if you head over to a duck pond to see some fish and you drop your phone in the water and take a picture? That would be cool. What about those rare instances when you actually see a mermaid? You can’t take a picture with a regular phone. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             You need a rugged GS3.

Chris Burres:               Hey, Galaxy, if you want hire me as your spokesperson. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:                         You almost made me believe I might see a mermaid.

Maintaining your Ad Campaign

Charles Lewis:             Or even check your ads. Ask and go stale. You may have a campaign that’s been running smoothly and effectively and getting leads but you’re constantly showing the same ad. Remix your ads do some [0:16:29] [Inaudible] testing because that could impove.

Chris Burres:               Wika, wika, wika. Remix the ad. Wikipedia.

Charles Lewis:                         Next. [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Moving on. Nothing to see here.

Charles Lewis:             Number four says Confirm a Standard Campaign Delivery Method. I think in simple terms what he’s saying is come with something consistent in regards to your strategy.

For example with paid search if you’re going to do display network and you’re only going to use it for remarketing then do display network and only use it for remarketing. But test it. I’m not saying it’s not okay to do something different.

Chris Burres:               SEO Rapper Seen in Straight View. Street View I don’t know where Straight View came from. What else do we have? I just thought this is technologically really cool. It’s by Leap Motion you know these games consults that use cameras and watch you.

They aren’t actually connected in any way. This one has a 150 degree angle field of vision and contract your ten figures at 250 frames per second. That’s just nuts.

Charles Lewis:             Yes, it’s pretty cool.

Chris Burres:               It is pretty cool. That ends the potatoes. It’s time to get to the meat hopefully Gino– I wonder if Gino still listens. Gino, if you listen every now and then send us an email. Let me say that you guys can stock us, haunt us, harass us, carass us – I don’t know what that is – facebook.com/

SEO Optimization – Website Architecture

Charles Lewis:             That really sucks when you’re looking for information. You may even have that information on your site but if it’s not laid out the right way and if you can’t find it or it’s not accessible to a mobile device then you lose it. Make sure that [0:13:35] [Inaudible] the content and how it’s presented not just how good your site looks.

Chris Burres:               Architecture is as important for the user experience as it is for SEO for Google.

Charles Lewis:             You want to make sure that your content is being indexed in the correct way. If you’re [0:13:50] [Inaudible] pretty images then that’s not a good experience for the user or for search.

Number eight Better Structure Leads to More Inbound Links. This complements number seven. If people can log onto your site, found what they were looking for and it helps them then they’re likely to link to you. So, they can help somebody else.

If they can’t find what they’re looking for due to your structure then that’s a [0:14:15] [Inaudible]. Also you want to make sure that your content is informative and put a link to it.

Chris Burres:               Analyze.

Charles Lewis:                         I was going to say analysyze. Hit us up we will be glad to do one for you.

Chris Burres:               Let’s do one more. Tim Collin, the title is “Quality excellent. I’ve been listening to—That’d not the title that’s the level of quality excellent. I have been listening to this–

Charles Lewis:             Yes, Tim. What’s up Tim?

Chris Burres:               If all of these reviews sites could just review the exact same way then we I wouldn’t have that confusion. Here we go I have been listening to this company’s SEO podcast for over a year and it’s my favorite.

The information provided but the program is entertaining and they aren’t all full of themselves the way that some of the other SEO experts seem to be. Someday when I’m ready to hire an SEO consulting firm for my companies – I like the sound of that – these guys will likely be the ones who get my business.”
